The place where it all began in London - opened in 1919, Tubby Isaac's Aldgate was named after the man himself, who ran the stall until 1939 when he emigrated to America with his sons, so they would not be conscripted into the war, but they then got enlisted over there instead!

When Isaac left the country, his Nephew Solly took over the business and ran it until he died in 1975. Solly's brother Barney operated a rival stall opposite Tubby Isaac's and both brothers also owned wholesale businesses supplying other shellfish stalls in East London.

When Barney retired in 1970, Another local wholesaler Eddie Button took over Barney's -  with Tubby Isaac's also selling their wholesale business to Barney's in 1979.

Solly passed away in 1975 - and his Nephew Ted Simpson took on the running of the business until 1989. It then passed to his son Paul Simpson, who ran it until it it eventually closed in 2013.

It may be gone from East London, but 'Tubby Isaacs' is still going strong locally in Clacton - with the business maintaining the link to its origins in East London - as they have bought the seafood for their stall from wholesaler Barneys for many years!

As part of the annual Pie 'n' Mash Week we have created a range of products, everything from: keyring, badges, rosettes, bottle openers, pocket mirrors, fridge magnets, mugs tote bags, and more!

There are also T-shirts available.
