Were you a Warner Wagtail?  Do you remember the song?

🎼"We are the Warner's Wagtails, happy as can be
Loving every minute, by the deep blue sea
As you look around us, you'll always see us smile
For we are Warner's Wagtails, happy all the while"

Originally constructed in 1937, the Dovercourt Bay Holiday Lido was created on plans supplied by architect Harold Ridley Hooper, who had also drawn up the plans for the Butlins camp at Skegness.

Although It is rumored that the camp had been constructed by Billy Butlin and operated as a Butlin's camp for the 1937–1938 season, but closed in the summer of 1938, when the Clacton Butlin’s camp opened.

The camp provided accommodation for 1,500 guests, and boasted a dining room, bars, ballroom, swimming pool, bowling, putting, tennis, children’s areas, boating lake and sports facilities.

Briefly requisitioned by the government during wartime, on the 1st of June 1946 Warner’s holiday camp reopened for the summer season.
