Highfield Holiday Park - Pool tote bag
Highfield Holiday Park - Pool tote bag
Popular with tourists since the Victorian times, Tendring saw a huge growth in business registrations filed by local entrepreneurs, set up to replace the old-style touring caravans and camping sites, with modern static caravan-based holiday camps.
Parkavan (Clacton) Ltd, was one of those businesses, and established by Thomas and Ivy Taylor of Clacton-on-Sea to run the new Highfields Holiday Park
Prior to these modern caravan parks arriving, tourists were previously limited to guest houses, hotels and the larger holiday camps such as Butlins.
Highfield offered increased facilities such as those found at Butlins, such as amusements, a pool and darts hall, shops and swimming pools. They also added licenced bars and function suites - such as the Dolphin Club, Tudor, Bermuda and Calypso bars - a mix of family and adult bars that offered entertainmentin the evenings, and sometimes at lunchtimes too.
Some of the most popular performers to grace the various venues over the years were: Arthur Guitar - who doubled as the entertainments manager, the Beany Duo, the Len Ebbage Showband, Trinity, Vic Morgan on his organ, Patchez, The Tartan Showband, Alvis & O'Dell, Tubby "King of the Tots" Saunders, Jasper, and various visiting celebrities. There were also discos such as Superfly.
The resort was renamed Highfield Grange, when it was taken over by Park Resorts - who have a great range of modern souvenirs available in their gift shops. Here at Oh My Naze! we like to focus on the good old days of Highfield.
