Martello 'Sticker Style' (80s) tote bag
Caravan owner's child? or visitor to the park in the 80s - you would have had one of these badges - usually with your caravan number on. Ours has the membership card design in the middle.
Originating as the Southcliffe Trailer Camp, The Martello Caravan Park was established by Douglas Garton, a Colchester based transport contractor, along with Florence Garton and Kate Norfolk.
The Gartons' son Robin, later provided the entertainment at the Martello with his band. Robin also ran a Martello Studios from the basement of the Martello tower on-site, producing jingles, advertisements, recordings, even recording his own band's singles on the Big T / Martello label.
Many other entertainers would appear over the course of the years at the Martello as well as Robin's much loved dance band; the Benny Harris Set, Bryan and Charlie, and later Bryan and Tom (after Charlie sadly passed away).
