Celebrate a little local music history with our Weeley Festival 1971 design.
Over the August bank holiday weekend in 1971, the Essex village of Weeley welcomed more than 100,000 music fans for an extraordinary, one-off festival. Organised by Clacton Round Table as a charity fundraiser, what began as a modest local event grew into a huge gathering featuring some of the biggest names in British rock. Music played through the day and night, creating memories that are still shared more than half a century later.
Local history is at the heart of Oh My Naze!, and the interest in a T-Rex poster displayed in our Walton-on-the-Naze shop prompted us to create a Weeley Festival range of our own.
Our artwork features an illustrated Marc Bolan surrounded by some of the names from the festival line-up, including Faces, Mott the Hoople, Lindisfarne, King Crimson, Mungo Jerry, Status Quo and Curved Air.
Inspired by the psychedelic concert artwork of the late 1960s and early 1970s, the design combines flowing lettering, an Art Nouveau-inspired frame and bold blocks of colour. The purple and black colourways feature hot pink lettering—a nod to the original festival poster—while the green and brown versions use combinations of orange, mustard and cream for a warmer, earthy feel.
Whether Weeley is part of your own memories, a story passed down through your family, or a piece of local music history you’ve only recently discovered, this collection celebrates the music and visual style of the era.
